Enterprise Redefinition Assessment

Enterprise Redefinition Assessment (ERA): Objectives and Evaluation Criteria

Enterprise Redefinition Assessment

How far has your enterprise been redefined?

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how knowledge is acquired, analysis is conducted, predictions are made, decisions are supported, and work is executed.

However, adopting AI and improving the efficiency of existing operations does not necessarily transform the enterprise itself.

What enterprises increasingly need is not only the ability to improve their current businesses, but also the capacity to continuously redesign their Purpose, Business, Organization, Capital, and Leadership in response to changes in society and technology.

VURA Capital Innovation Holdings defines this capacity as Enterprise Redefinition Capability.

Through ten questions across five dimensions, this assessment helps you understand how far your enterprise has progressed in redefining itself.

The assessment takes approximately three minutes.

What Is Enterprise Redefinition?

Enterprise Redefinition is not simply about improving one part of an organization.

It involves reconsidering why an enterprise exists, what value it creates, how it organizes itself, where it allocates capital, and what kind of future its leaders seek to create.

Enterprise Redefinition is the continuous redesign of these interconnected elements and of the overall structure of the enterprise.

Redefining the enterprise ultimately redefines enterprise value.

This is the central idea behind Enterprise Redefinition.

The Five Dimensions

1. Purpose

Purpose concerns why the enterprise exists and what future it seeks to create.

This dimension assesses whether Purpose functions not merely as a statement of aspiration, but as a practical basis for business selection, investment decisions, organizational design, and everyday decision-making.

2. Business

Business concerns what value the enterprise creates, for whom, and through what mechanism.

This dimension assesses whether the enterprise goes beyond improving its existing operations to continuously reconsider customer value, revenue models, competitive advantage, and its role within the industry.

3. Organization

Organization concerns whether the enterprise’s people, capabilities, decision-making structures, and systems for human–AI collaboration are aligned with the future it seeks to create.

This dimension assesses whether the organization can renew its capabilities for future value creation instead of remaining optimized for the businesses of the past.

4. Capital

Capital concerns how the enterprise allocates financial resources, people, technology, knowledge, data, trust, networks, and other forms of capital.

This dimension assesses whether capital is allocated not only to protect current earnings, but also to create new possibilities and future sources of competitive advantage.

5. Leadership

Leadership concerns whether executives and other leaders go beyond managing the existing organization and assume responsibility for designing the future of the enterprise.

This dimension assesses whether leaders can formulate important questions, envision the future, and continuously lead the redefinition of the enterprise under conditions of uncertainty.

Five Dimensions. Ten Questions.

For each question, select the answer that most closely reflects the current reality of your enterprise—not its ideal state.

This assessment does not evaluate enterprise size, revenue, profit, brand recognition, or the volume of AI adoption.

It examines the enterprise’s capacity to recognize environmental change and continuously redesign its Purpose, Business, Organization, Capital, and Leadership.

The assessment is not intended to determine whether an enterprise is right or wrong.

Its purpose is to help enterprises understand where they are today and identify what they should reconsider next.

Understanding Your Results

The results indicate the enterprise’s overall position and its current condition across the five dimensions.

The objective is not simply to achieve the highest possible score.

Enterprises operate in different industries, business environments, and stages of development. The speed and extent of redefinition required will therefore vary. Not every enterprise needs to pursue the same state.

The results should help you consider:

  • Which dimensions represent current strengths

  • Which dimensions offer the greatest opportunity for redefinition

  • Whether inconsistencies exist among the five dimensions

  • Whether the organization remains dependent on past success models

  • What the enterprise should reconsider next to create Future Value

Changing Purpose alone will not transform an enterprise if its business model and capital allocation remain unchanged.

Launching a new business will not produce lasting transformation if the organization and its leadership continue operating according to the assumptions of the past.

Enterprise Redefinition depends not on excellence in one isolated dimension, but on coherence across Purpose, Business, Organization, Capital, and Leadership.

Enterprise Redefinition Maturity Model

This assessment is based on the Enterprise Redefinition Maturity Model (ERMM) developed by VURA Capital Innovation Holdings.

ERMM describes the development of Enterprise Redefinition Capability across stages—from reactive responses to external change to the ability to achieve continuous enterprise evolution.

The purpose is not to reach the highest level as quickly as possible.

The objective is to understand the enterprise’s current position and identify which capabilities should be strengthened and which structures should be reconsidered.

Enterprise Redefinition is not a project that ends once a transformation has been completed.

The enterprise recognizes change, learns, redefines itself, designs new structures, executes, measures outcomes, and learns again.

By repeatedly completing this cycle, the enterprise accumulates the capacity to continuously redesign and evolve itself.

Theoretical Foundation

Enterprise Redefinition is a management framework for enterprise evolution in the age of AI, developed by Naoki Kadowaki, Founder, President and CEO of VURA Capital Innovation Holdings Inc.

Its theoretical foundation is presented in the VURA Working Paper Series.

Enterprise Redefinition

Toward an Enterprise Evolution Theory for the Age of AI

The paper conceptualizes Enterprise Redefinition through five dimensions: Purpose, Business, Organization, Capital, and Leadership.

It also introduces Enterprise Redefinition Capability, the Enterprise Redefinition Cycle, and the Enterprise Redefinition Maturity Model.

Enterprise Redefinition is connected to Future Value Theory.

Future Value Theory explains why future-oriented management and Future Value creation matter.

Enterprise Redefinition explains what an enterprise must redesign.

Enterprise Redefinition Capability explains how the enterprise can repeatedly undertake that redesign.

The theoretical framework, case analysis, research propositions, limitations, and future research agenda are available through the VURA Working Paper Series.

Questions to Consider After the Assessment

After reviewing the results, we recommend discussing the following questions with your management team:

  • Why does our enterprise exist?

  • What will we become an enterprise that creates?

  • Is our current business connected to the future value expected by customers and society?

  • Is our organization still optimized for the successes of the past?

  • How should we redesign the respective roles of humans and AI?

  • Is capital being allocated to create the future, rather than merely preserve the past?

  • Are our leaders only managing the present, or are they designing the future?

  • Are Purpose, Business, Organization, Capital, and Leadership moving in a coherent direction?

  • Which assumption should we let go of next?

  • What should we redefine first?

The assessment results are not the answer.

They are a starting point for an enterprise to question itself and begin a meaningful dialogue about its future.

Important Notice

This assessment is an initial self-diagnostic instrument based on the Enterprise Redefinition Maturity Model.

It organizes the enterprise’s current position based on the respondent’s perceptions. It does not determine or guarantee enterprise value, financial condition, legal compliance, investment suitability, or management performance.

For a more accurate understanding of the enterprise, multiple directors, executives, and business leaders should complete the assessment independently and compare their responses.

Attention should be given not only to the resulting scores, but also to dimensions and questions on which participants disagree.

Differences in perception may reveal important management issues that the enterprise needs to address next.
