Q45 What Kind of Era Is the AI Era, After All?

Chapter 5 The Essence of the AI Era

The Short Answer

It is the era of creating future value.

Unpacking the Question

What kind of era is the AI era, after all?
Many people call it "the era when AI takes our jobs."
That is what they say.
That is certainly one side of it.
AI holds knowledge,
analyzes,
writes,
builds programs,
and is even learning to execute.
Much of the work humans have carried will be transformed by AI.
But I believe that is not the essence of the AI era.
The AI era is an era that tests our power to choose the future.
AI tells us what is possible.
It even shows us the optimal options.
But it cannot decide what future we want to realize.
That role, and that role alone, will always remain with humans.
So AI is not the goal.
It is a means of realizing the future.
Lose sight of the goal,
and AI becomes nothing more than an efficient way to repeat the past.
On the other hand,
a company with a clear purpose and a future it wants to realize
can use AI to reach that future faster.
In Future Value Theory, corporate value is determined by expectation of the future.
So the AI era is not an era of competing on efficiency.
It is an era of generating expectations for the future.
The more a company creates the future,
the more people gather,
the more capital gathers,
and the more society chooses it.
The AI era is the era of creating future value.

Implications for Management

The essence of management in the AI era is not a race for efficiency.
The more AI gives every company access to the same technology and analytical power, the more the difference comes from "what future you aim for."
Leaders must not make AI adoption the goal itself; they must define the future they want to realize through AI.

How Would You Answer?

With AI, are you
making yesterday more efficient?
Or are you trying to create a future no one has ever seen?
