Can AI become a CEO?
My view is: "half of one."
AI gathers information faster than humans.
It excels at analyzing markets, forecasting risk, and comparing multiple options.
Much of this analysis and judgment will soon be done more accurately by AI.
So part of the executive's job will indeed be replaced by AI.
But that alone does not make a CEO.
Leaders have another essential job.
It is deciding which future to choose — and accepting responsibility for that choice.
Prioritize profit?
Choose the bold challenge?
Protect your employees?
Aim to change society?
Questions like these have no single correct answer.
That is why AI can present "the most rational option" but cannot say, "I choose this future," and take responsibility for it.
Management is not the job of producing correct answers.
It is the job of choosing a future and owning the consequences.
The work AI handles will keep growing.
But as long as someone must make the final choice of future, the role of CEO will not disappear.
That remaining half is the true core of management.

Implications for Management

In the AI era, the CEO's role does not vanish — it becomes more essential.
Information analysis, forecasting, and comparing options can be handed to AI.
But choosing which future to pursue, and bearing responsibility for that decision, is something only a leader can do.
What tomorrow's CEO needs is not the most information, but the power to define the future the organization is heading toward and to move people.
The CEO is the person ultimately responsible for creating future value.
