Q100 What Future Will You Create in the AI Era?

Chapter 10 Society and the Future

The Short Answer

The future is created not by AI, but by you.

Unpacking the Question

In the AI era, at the close of this book, there is one question I want to leave with you.
What future will you create?
AI will keep evolving from here.
It will organize knowledge,
draw out answers,
and support our work.
But there is one thing AI cannot do.
That is choosing the future.
What kind of society to aim for.
What kind of company to build.
What kind of life to live.
Deciding those answers is something only a human being can do.
The ones who decide the future are not a special few.
Not managers alone.
Not politicians alone.
Companies.
Managers.
Employees.
Investors.
And every single person living in this society is creating the future.
What Future Value Theory wants to say comes down to one thing.
Corporate value is decided not by the past, but by the future.
And the future is not something anyone will hand you.
It is not something to wait for.
It is something you create yourself.
One challenge.
One decision.
One action.
Each of them changes the future.
That is why I am not pessimistic about the AI era.
If anything, I believe it is an era in which the value of humans choosing the future will grow greater than ever before.
The future is not yet decided.
And that is exactly why the future holds hope.
And the one who can turn that hope into reality is you—and no one else.

Implications for Management

In the AI era, the ones who create the future are human beings.
In managing a company, what matters most is not predicting the future, but deciding what future you want to realize.
The steady accumulation of will and action toward the future is what creates corporate value.
Corporate value is decided not by the past, but by the future.

How Would You Answer?

What future do you want to create from here?
And, to make that future real, what step will you take—starting today?
