Q63 In the AI era, what should you entrust to young employees?

Chapter 7 Organizations and People

The Short Answer

Entrust young people with the work of creating the future.

Unpacking the Question

In the AI era, what should we entrust to young employees?
Until now, to help them build experience,
it was standard to start them with chores and routine work.
But much of that work is exactly what AI will take over.
If young people experience only work that AI can replace,
the abilities the future demands will never develop.
That is why young employees should be entrusted with work that touches the future.
Trying out new AI tools.
Devising new services.
Listening to the customers of the future.
Taking on themes that have no answers yet.
Of course, there will be failures.
There will be gaps in experience.
But the future cannot be built on experience alone.
Fresh perspectives and flexible thinking often open the way forward.
The younger generation lives naturally among new technologies and new values.
They may carry the sensibility closest to the customers of the future.
Leaving that power unused is a great loss for the company.
In Future Value Theory, we hold that the work of creating the future has no generational walls.
What matters is not age.
It is curiosity about the future and the will to take on challenges.
Leaders in the AI era must not merely protect young people—
they must be the ones who entrust them with the future.
Entrusting the future to the young is how you grow the future of the company.

Implications for Management

The very philosophy of developing young talent needs to change.
In development as we knew it, "learn the basic tasks first" and "earn important work only after building experience" were the central ideas.
But AI will take over most of that basic work.
That is why young employees need chances to try new technologies, chances to think through new customer value, and chances to take on unknown problems — and they need these experiences from an early stage.
The ability to create the future grows out of the experience of being entrusted with it.

How Would You Answer?

In your company,
are young people entrusted with the work of the past?
Or with the work of creating the future?
