Q41 What Is Human Value in the AI Era?

Chapter 5 The Essence of the AI Era

The Short Answer

Human value lies in deciding what future to create.

Unpacking the Question

What is human value in the AI era?
AI has knowledge.
It can analyze.
It can write.
It can build programs.
One after another, it has taken on work we once believed only humans could do.
So will human value disappear?
I believe the opposite.
The deeper we move into the AI era,
the more human value shifts away from "what you know"
toward "deciding what future to create."
Which future will you aim for?
What will you hold dear?
Who will you take on the challenge with?
Those choices cannot be made by knowledge alone.
They require will.
They require purpose.
And they require responsibility for the future.
AI can show us what is possible.
But it cannot decide what we want to realize.
Choosing a future,
gathering allies,
taking on the challenge,
and accepting responsibility.
That is work only humans can do.
In Future Value Theory, both human value and corporate value
are determined not by past achievements but by the future you create.
AI can predict the future.
But it cannot create the future.
That is why the AI era is not an era in which human value shrinks.
It is an era in which the value only humans can offer comes into sharper focus.

Implications for Management

Talent strategy in the AI era must move away from seeing people as "executors of tasks."
Companies should not pit humans against AI; they should use AI to create environments where humans can generate higher value.
What matters is not what your employees know, but what future they can create.
Leaders need to redefine their people as capital that generates future value.

How Would You Answer?

Today, are you
doing work that AI can do?
Or are you trying to create a future that AI cannot?
