Management means creating the future.

Unpacking the Question

If AI asked you this, how would you answer?
"Are you truly managing this company?"
Checking the numbers every day.
Holding meetings.
Managing budgets.
Chasing revenue and profit.
All of these are, of course, necessary parts of the job.
But is that alone really management?
In my novel The Story of Future Value, there appears an AI named Vura that observes the future.
Vura does not give leaders answers.
Instead, it poses a single question.
"Are you truly managing this company?"
The question has no correct answer.
And that is exactly why leaders keep thinking.
What does this company exist for?
What future is it trying to create?
What value does it want to leave to society?
Managing the numbers is part of management.
But watching numbers alone will never give birth to a new future.
Management is the practice of choosing a future, leading people, and making that future real.
AI can analyze the future.
But it cannot decide what future you want to create.
Only the leader can answer that question.

Implications for Management

Leaders are not merely people pressed by daily administrative work; they carry the responsibility of creating the future.
Watching the numbers and managing the plan are important.
But those alone will not produce the company's future.
The leader's essential work is to question the company's reason for being, define the future, and lead people toward it.
In the AI era, management itself needs to be redefined.
